Concept art for Disney’s Jungle Book (1967).
It was the first film I ever saw (though many years later, when it was re-released). I was mesmerized by it: the dense, misty backgrounds, the mysteriously alluring music, the characters going about their way.
It gave me a lifelong fascination for jungles: for the secrets of life.

Production design by Ken Adam for MOONRAKER (1979).
Idea: remake the James Bond films. But change their setting to the 1950s. Do away with the “spectacular” action stuff. Instead, turn the films into suspenseful spy thrillers. Close to the novels—in fact, EXACTLY like the novels (minus the blots of dated racism). Start with MOONRAKER.
An exclusive party. Concept sketches by Sylvain Despretz for Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut (1999).
Such a scary, disturbing film—and one of my all-time favorites.
