These are pretty much what I was thinking of when creating my blog. I’ve always considered my blog a late-night show, an after-hours thing. A place with a buzzing neon sign.
Edinburgh’s mysterious miniature coffins. Found in 1836 in a secluded spot on the north-east side of Arthur’s Seat, these 17 wooden figurines (of which 8 survive) are still a puzzle. My favorite explanation has to be that the figurines are linked to mass murderers, Burke and Hare, and that someone staged a kind of mimic burial to honor the duo’s 17 victims. Who knows.
As a kid, I was fascinated by the girl on the Belinda cigarettes pack, a brand my mother smoked. All through my childhood, her beautiful face was somewhere nearby, in the corner of my eye. It’s a familiar face to me—familiar in its elusiveness.
The illustration, originally from 1974, is by Frans Mettes (1909-1984).

It’s also in the 1965 Brigitte Bardot film, VIVA MARIA! (last three images). Though it’s played for laughs there, as none of the devices seem to work properly.
