It must have some of the best comic villains of all Disney films. They were genuinely scary and unsympathetic, but also provided a bit of cartoony comic relief. They basically were the bridge between the live action and the animation.
The Gogans by the way remind me of The Goonies’ Fratellis (what a sentence to write).

The wizard duel between Mim and Merlin from Disney’s The Sword in the Stone (1963), storyboarded by Bill Peet–the great Bill Peet, so essential to Disney’s early years.
A few fonts and things from WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY (1971). I always thought the candy in the film looked so unappetizing. Like jars of painted kidney stones. The chocolate river in the factory seemed filled with baby diarrhea or something, or like the murky stream near a refinery. But anyway—the film is a classic of course, and Gene Wilder is supreme in it: a cordial demon.
