Old ARCHIE comics are always so funny to leaf through. You’re zapped right back in time. Ads for the Farrah Fawcett Fan Club. The stars are Starsky and Hutch, Lynda Carter, Rocky. Long-forgotten candy bars. The lingo and the fashion, the music. But also the innocence, or rather the sincerity—irony can be pretty tiresome in a time where even the phrase ‘jumped the shark’ has jumped the shark.
Some comic panels by the King of Span, Roy Crane (1901-1977). Crane was the artist behind the popular comics, Wash Tubbs, Captain Easy, and Buz Sawyer.

“Ha! It’s three o’clock – and, according to the curse, I’m to be killed by a gun! Ridiculous!”
“The Mars you are seeing now is the REAL Mars! The dead, barren planet we permit the rest of the universe to see is – a FALSE FACE! 1000 years ago, an invading fleet from outer space attacked the planet…”
“Is he dead?”
—“Smell him!”
“Will you do me a favor?”
